Smokeless kitchen is a larger project of the Foundation. With this project we want to help tackle a major health problem that is still present in many African countries, cooking on wood-fired ovens in enclosed spaces.
In this project we build so-called "stoves" a kind of stove with a hole at the top for the pans. These ovens are suitable for charcoal, which is more efficient than wood. We build a chimney on these stoves to lead the smoke outside through a duct. As a result, the women are no longer bent over inhaling smoke over their pans, but are standing upright cooking. And most importantly: they no longer continuously inhale the toxic smoke!
Incidentally, we do not do the building ourselves, we have that done by local companies that have the knowledge in-house. In this way we help both the women who cook and the local economy.
